Problem with first site setup from WPEngine backup. SQL errors?

First time user.
I downloaded a backup from WPEngine to do a manual import.
I went to file import and said import the zip named babasouk.zip
Named the site babasouk.
The site folder appears in File manager.

The import seemed to run fine, then it asked for my admin credentials and started DB import. I got the error in the screenshot.
When I click view site in Local the browser takes me to the site. It loads but not not with the child theme I use. It loads the parent theme.
When I try to login using my username and password from the actual site it does not allow me to. I tried a PW reset it said unknown email.

Some additional information. All of the blog posts appear to be there. The site is a woocommerce store. None of the products are there.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey @mgason – Welcome to the forums!

What you are describing sounds like there’s some sort of SQL file (or files) that are causing issues when importing and because of that, Local isn’t able to fully finish setting up the site.

Have you taken a look at the Local log to see if there ar any errors? If you provide your Local Log, we can take a look here as well. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:

One other thing you might try is extracting the zip file somewhere temporarily, and then try and find the main SQL file. From there, you can zip that file up with the wp-contents folder and import the newly created zip to a new site in Local. Let us know if that helps fix things, or if you find anything in the Local log!

Hi,
I tried again with a new backup download after clearing the log. I got the same errors. I putting the log at the end of this post.
I will try what you mentioned. I am not entirely sure about your instructions. Should I…
unpack the download
zip contents folder and sql file
import that as a new site, using File/Import Site
OR
make a new empty site
then import the data somehow

Either of those workflows would work. I would start by working through that first workflow. To help you visualize, you can try following the steps outlined in the “Restoring From Only Local Site files” section of this help doc:

If you do have to go with the second workflow, then, yes, create a new site and then take whatever sql file is located in the backup and import it using something like Adminer, followed by doing a manual search and replace for the domain.

Let me know if you get that far and need any additional pointers!

I am not having much luck.
I tried unpacking the WPEngine backup download.
I zipped wp-content and the sql file (prior to getting your further instructions) Local said "Sorry couldn’t work out what to do with that file)
I then zipped up all of the backup file again and curiously got the same error when I tried to import it, which made no sense to me. Attached is a screenshot of the backup contents I re-zipped.
What can I leave out if trying to make a new zip.

That wp-snapshots folder may be causing issues. If I remember correctly, I think that this folder stores a number of sql files within it.

Can you try excluding the wp-snapshots folder from the newly created zip and import that?
