Push to Flywheel Staging

I was wondering if there is a way to push local to Flywheel staging?

At this time there isnā€™t that option.

You can push to a demo site, but that wonā€™t get you to a point where you can push a staging site to production.

Thanks Ben! Any word on if that is on the roadmap?

Itā€™s not on the immediate horizon, but we are going to be reworking how staging works so that it is a better overall experience. When we get to that point, the Local -> staging connection will be a part of that improvement.

I just started using Flywheels services and just noticed that Local not have the option to push to staging? I am so used to working in which i go from dev->staging->production . What is the advantage of not being able to push directly to staging?

I totally agree with your workflow but, since Flywheel only offers Staging and Productionā€¦their Staging phase is the only option for QA/UAT and client review. Weā€™ve been using a work-around of creating a new ā€œTestā€ instance in Flywheel. Then uncouple Local from the Test instance and then push to Production once approved.

+1 for adding this function; Iā€™m unclear on why moving to staging from Local is not available? My first client has limited time to view changes to their site thatā€™s being developed within Local, and my machine is not always on, so they can not see the changes despite having the Local Live link :frowning:

If anyone has a work around or can help me figure out how to migrate to a staging site on Flywheel from Local Iā€™d be delighted to hear it.

Many thanks,
Graham - a WP/Flywheel newbie!

There isnā€™t any advantage to doing things this way. I definitely agree that itā€™s a pain point. Itā€™s just that these products (Local and Staging) were developed independently from each other, each without the other in mind.

Integrating them isnā€™t as simple as it sounds because neither has any existing affordances for the other.

Hi Ben,
As a new user of Flywheel (and Local) as well as WP Iā€™ve much to learn, and appreciate your clarification on how independent the two products are.
Cheers,

+1 for this feature! My workflow is dev > staging > live. Itā€™s frustrating that I canā€™t submit changes to the staging site from local. Any thoughts when something like this might be available?

Looks like this will be a paid feature only

I would just like to express my distaste for this being a teams only option. One of the key selling points for going with flywheel in the first place as a hosting provider was a staging site option. I donā€™t see any reason that we wouldnā€™t be able to push to staging from flywheel local as part of the hosting except for a money grab and thorn in the customers side.

I understand that there has to be incremental value to incentivize people to buy the paid version of flywheel local, but I donā€™t think this is the feature to drive that decision. The staging workflow is a key selling point of your hosting and shouldnā€™t be restricted.

Being able to configure permissions such that only certain people on a team can push to staging and some to production is a good place to draw the line because thatā€™s an enterprise feature. Basic publishing workflow that your advertising as part of your hosting package but isnā€™t really there is just deceptiveā€¦

I agree with tnhsaesop.

When purchasing a freelance account, I just assumed that I would be able to push to a staging container from the Local app while not interfering with the live site. I was disappointed today to find out that I would have to migrate to a staging site manually.

$50/month is steep if youā€™re a team of one.

Also agree with tnhsaesop. Iā€™ve also paid for a Freelance account and think its unrealistic to expect to upsell a sole trader a ā€˜teamā€™ orientated version of local by including 1 workflow feature that has nothing to do with working within a team.

If they do persist, this will sorely test my loyalty to flywheel.

Hey all! Weā€™re totally working on an individual ā€œProā€ option. More to come in July

Just spent a month working on a site on Local assuming I could easily push it to staging. :disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed:

Hey @separo - Welcome to the community!

While pushing to a staging site isnā€™t a part of the community version, you can always push to a demo site if you are wanting to have a temporary place to share a stable version of a site during the QA process.
