Symlinks with Windows fail

I got a new computer. My old one had Local 3.x on it. I was able to use symlinks on it with Local so long as I turned off fast dockers. On this new computer, I installed the latest 5.6.6 version, and although this version is supposed to work with symlinks, it fails miserably.

I created a symlink in the plugins folder to my development folder. WordPress will see it, and activate it. But then upon reload, it crashes with a message “failed to open stream. No such file or directory” while attempting to load the plugin in the symlinked folder. I get errors on every require_once() call and include () call that attempts to load any of the symlinked files.

I have an old installer for Local 3.x and will reinstall that one on this new computer if necessary. But I’d prefer to use this latest version.

Any help that you can provide will be appreciated.
