Importing website from classic version to new version of local

Issue Summary

I’ve built a website on Classic Local. I’ve zipped my site folder including wp-content and sql database. When I import message says: /Local Sites/ccjwa has existing Local data. Please choose different path.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular? I only have one site.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser? No.

Replication

Describe the steps that others can take to replicate this issue. If you have screenshots that can help clarify what is happening, please include them!

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?

    • For example: macOS Catalina or Windows 10 Professional
      Windows 10
  • Attach the Local Log. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:

@ccjwa: check the /app/sql directory of the site in the ZIP file. There seemed to be a change from one-file-per-table, to one-big-file (local.sql) at some point. The older files may still be present, and the import may be trying to pull in all of them, along with the one-big-file. If they are present, and you remove them from the ZIP file (after making a backup of the ZIP file, of course), you might have more success with the import.

Thank you Burt.

I’ve managed to solve my problems. I backed up my files and uninstalled Classic and reinstalled new version of Local and then imported my website as V2 of original. It has worked; no error messages but course all my links broke. Used Velvet Blues but that didn’t work. So have fixed them all manually. I haven’t gone live yet but will do soon. At least I can access my site and I’m now back on track. Once again, thank you for your time. I nearly had heart failure!

Glad to hear that you’re back on track. The Find and Replace functionality in WP Migrate DB works great for URL replacements in the database.
