Local not opening on Windows

I’ve recently installed Local, beginning with version 5.2.4 (previous attempts were not successful). Started the program today and it said that version 5.2.5 was available for update, so I decided to install it, hoping that some issues would be resolved.

The installation appeared to go okay, but when I tried to start Local after upgrading, nothing happened. I rebooted and tried again; still nothing when trying to start Local.

I thought I would try reinstalling the program. The installer indicated that Local was already installed, but was willing to install again. The install failed, and it turned out that the entire program folder had been deleted in the process. Tried rebooting and reinstalling again, and the install failed again (it also still wanted me to believe that Local was already installed, despite the folder just being gone).

I went into regedit and manually deleted every key related to the program. Rebooted. Installed 5.2.4 because I knew that version worked, and I appear to be back on track now, but do not plan on trying to update Local to 5.2.5 again.

Running Windows 10 Pro

This is also happening to me after upgrading to 5.2.5
Windows 10 Pro Build 18362.657

Starting local does nothing, reboot doesn’t fix, nothing Local in task manager.

Same thing happened to me.
I found a folder in AppData/Local called “Local-Updater” containing a file
named “installer.exe”… my understanding is that it just repeats the update
installation. The second try worked…

I thought I would try again to update to 5.2.7, thinking that the installer may have been sorted. It claims to have installed, and the files appear to be there, but Local will not run at all. I tried the installer again, and the second try did not work for me. With the other issues I’ve been having, sorry, I’m going back to Laragon.

Hi all,

So sorry for the trouble!

We’re currently digging into a similar issue here and investigating ways to replicate the issue on our end: Installation Windows - Local 5.2.7 won't open but 5.2.6 does

Any additional details such as logs, screenshots, screen recordings, etc are greatly appreciated!

Just a musing I had after rolling back to 5.2.6. It also wouldn’t start up right away after keeping the ‘Run Local’ checked once I re-installed it.

I ran the downgrade installation a second time for 5.2.6 and unchecked ‘Run Local’ at the end. Waited a moment, than spun up Local just fine.

Don’t know if that helps or not, or if it’s even replicatable, but I haven’t had the opportunity to test by re-upgrading to 5.2.7 yet. If I think of doing it, I’ll update with any new info I might produce.

Upgraded to 5.2.7 this morning, and I’m stuck on the screen to “I agree” on Local’s terms of service. I downgraded to 5.2.6, and it still appears when I try to start Local.

I don’t have any screen shots or videos to show, as there is nothing happening. The install appears to run correctly, but does not. When I click on the shortcut, or try to run from search or directly from the executable, nothing happens at all. Here’s the latest lightning log text:

Out of curiosity, I tried running the installer for a third time, and leaving the “Run Local” option unchecked at the end, and that did not work.

I tried downloading 5.2.6, leaving the “Run Local” option unchecked, and holding my breath driving through the tunnel, and now it does start. Interestingly, Adminer is also working in this version, so that’s an improvement. I’m not sure I’m confident enough to commit, but I’ll leave Local installed for now.

Hi there, I’ve been working on the 5.2.7 for a few weeks and today I do not seem to be able to run the programme. I’ve been looking all morning on forums to find an answer and came acrosse this topic. Have you figured out what’s wrong with 5.2.7 on Windows? How do you downgrade to 5.2.6? Do you need to uninstall 5.2.7 then reinstall 5.2.6? No risk of loosing everything I’ve done so far on my local website by doing so?
Thank in advance for your help,

Yseult from Belgium

I was able to just run the 5.2.6 installer without removing 5.2.7. I would recommend that, and not trying to uninstall, as in my experience, the program does not uninstall properly. I tried uninstalling [an earlier version] and was only able to reinstall after going through the computer registry and cleaning out all of the Local related keys I would find.

Cool, I’ll try that! Thanks, Robin
