Local won't open after updating via auto-updater [Windows]

I updated to the latest version of local and now it won’t open. Any help would be appreciated.

@kburgin… I had the same problem with 5.3.1 two weeks ago. I finally figured it out (after a suggestion from tech support)… you have to uninstall Local first before and then do a clean install. There seems to be a problem with the updater.

Thank you! I will try this.

Did you lose any work that wasn’t yet backed up?

I get this error when I try and start Local:

Fatal error in , line 0

Failed to deserialize the V8 snapshot blob. This can mean that the snapshot blob file is corrupted or missing.

#FailureMessage Object: 09D5F268Failed to deserialize the V8 snapshot blob.

Hi there, I have just updated today to the latest version and now Local doesn’t open. I am worried I may have lost a few days of work

Local opens but for me hot-swap between php versions does not seem to work. Tried 7.3.5 to 7.4.1without success. The site never connect to the local server. Had to downgrade to 7.3.5 to make it run once again.

Same here, not launching after update

Here’s temporary fix for this issue. Download and install older version of Local - Local 5.3.3

Your projects will not be deleted, but you can backup Local Site folder just in case.

Same here, not launching after update …
suggestions ?

A popup requested that there was a new update. So, I clicked and updated??? But, now when I click on my Desktop icon nothing happens. I have an HP Envy laptop.

I had already loaded a WordPress site and Peepso/Gecko theme and plugins which were working fine.

Any suggestions?

same bug here !! :face_with_thermometer:

This happen to me too. You need to uninstall the app restart computer and install it again.

I have also just updated to 5.3.3 and have the same issue of it not opening anymore. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling for no result. Any suggestions please. My OS is Windows 10.

Same issue as well after the last few times updating. This time instead of uninstalling I re-installed and is now working.

Same issue. After auto-update Local does not run. I downloaded version 5.3.3 from website and installed. Now it works again. No data is lost.

Hi all,

Sorry for the trouble after updating! We’re currently only seeing this on Windows and we’re actively looking into the root cause.

If this happens, here’s what you can try:

  1. Restart your PC, there may be a lingering process preventing Local from opening again

  2. Re-install Local by downloading the latest version in the Releases category.

Note: uninstalling can cause your sites list to be removed so be sure to simply download and run the installer for the latest versions.

I just added the following bug to our bug board for tracking’s sake: https://feedback.localwp.com/bug-reports/p/in-some-cases-local-wont-open-after-auto-updating-on-windows
