Newbie Question (plz dont cringe)

I’m needing to install Ioncube Loader on my Local on my laptop. I’ve read instructions on this link How do I install IonCube Loader in a site using the Custom Environment?, but some of it just doesnt make sense.

The site has been purchased from a developer and having this installed is a requirement for when I want to try to make some changes locally before testing it to then upload to the live site - just incase I more than likely do something wrong in the coding.

  • Which version of Local is being used?
I’m running the latest version of Local

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
    Windows 64x 10

Any help, or direction to complete this would be gratefully appreciated as I’m way out of my depth, but spose at least I’m learning new stuff lol.

Many thanks everyone

Hey @shazzanz, Welcome to the Local Community Forums!

The instructions contained within that link are for an older version of Local (pre 5.0.x) and so they won’t work for the most recent version of Local.

Right now the way that PHP extensions are managed in Local aren’t the easiest thing to get working, but that’s something that we’d like to eventually work on. If this is something you’d like to see worked on sooner rather than later, I would recommend upvoting and adding a comment to this post:

That being said, the general steps in the help doc you linked to should be similar in the most recent version of Local, but there’s definitely the possibility that things have changed.

Hi there Ben, thanks so much for your reply. I have followed that link and hopefully added a comment.

Those instructions, if I’m following them correctly definitely dont work.

I cant even get to the point to navigate to my local site to run the loader-wizard.php file, well I try and it just cant find the file.

eg. my local site is ~\Local Sites\girl4uconz

so I try to open in chrome http://girl4uconz.local/ioncube/loader-wizard.php and I get 404 error.

Is that the right location I should use?

As I have previously said any help would be appreciated, I really dont want to try to make experimental changes to a live site.

Many thanks
Sharon
