PHP version of host not an option in Local

This may be a naive question to ask and I apologise in advance. I have just installed new version of Local. I wanted to add a client site to edit. The PHP version (7.4.22) on SiteGround does not seem available on the Local list. I am on their Managed update service.

Can I simply replace php version on SG with 8.0.8 or 8.1.0 with no trouble for the site?

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?

    • For example: macOS Catalina or Windows 10 Professional
  • Attach the Local Log. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:

Security Reminder

Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

I’m faced with a similar issue.

Using Local for the first time and a site security pops up. One of the issues is an outdated php version.
How do I update the php version on Local?
I know how to do this with XAMPP but not Local.
Any help would be appreciated.
