Local Help Docs Connect
Connect to Flywheel is a feature of Local that lets you easily move sites between a local environment and your live environment hosted on Flywheel. This dramatically streamlines the go-live process and it’s totally free to Flywheel users!
You can download the latest version of Local here, or just quit and relaunch the application to upgrade your version.
Click on the icon on the left-hand toolbar. From here, you just need to click on the “Log in to Flywheel” button. Your browser will open automatically so you can enter your Flywheel username and password.
Now you just need to hit the “Log in with [Your Username]” button.
Now that you’re logged in to your Flywheel account, you’ll get redirected back to Local. You’ll know you’ve logged in successfully because your Flywheel sites will now be listed within Local!
To pull a Flywheel site down to your Local environment, start on the Connect to Flywheel tab. Click the “Pull to Local” button on the site you want to pull. You’ll be able to change the name of the Local site and edit advanced options, which lets you customize the domain and site path. When you’re ready, click “Connect & pull site.” After your site is done being pulled, you’ll be able to see it on the Local Sites tab where you can make any changes you need in a local environment!
The amount of time it takes to push or pull your site to or from Flywheel will differ from site to site and is dependent on both the size of your site and your internet speed.
After you’ve made the appropriate changes on your Local site, you can push it back to the live Flywheel site.
You just need to click on the icon on the bottom right of the Local app for the desired site you want to push.
You’ll then be prompted with a pop-up that gives you the opportunity to exclude pushing the database. After deciding whether or not to exclude it, you’ll be ready to hit the “Push to Flywheel’ button.
A backup will be made of the Flywheel site before its contents are replaced by the Local site.
That’s it! Pretty easy, right?
